Marlies de Roos-Linden (1982) was born and raised in Maarssen. At the age of 12, she started taking pan flute lessons with Jaap Delver at Muziekschool de Nieuwe Vaart. It soon turned out that Marlies had a lot of talent and quickly learned the techniques of the pan flute. After 5 years of lessons with Jaap Delver, he referred her to the famous Romanian pan flutist Damian Lucac in March 2001. Damian saw her unique talent and great passion for Romanian folk music. He decided to give Marlies private lessons at his home in Brussels. After his retirement, Damian Luca transferred a number of students to Marlies. From that moment on, giving pan flute lessons has become a permanent part of her musical life.
In the years since, Marlies’ career has accelerated. She came into contact with Mihai Scarlat through Damian. He took Marlies under his wing and trained her in the field of orchestral, ensemble and solo playing, presentation, interpretation, improvisation and arranging. Marlies has followed several master classes with Gheorghe Zamfir, Nicolae Pirvu, Liselotte Rokyta and Matthijs Koene. In 2012 Marlies obtained her theoretical certificate vocational training Classic at the Schumann Akademie (Conservatory). After obtaining this certificate, she set up her own music practice in Amersfoort: Music Practice Avenis. In addition to the position of teacher at Music Practice Avenis, Marlies can be heard as an orchestra member and soloist with the Ensemble Mihai Scarlat, a large professional Balkan ensemble. Marlies is also a member of several professional quartets (such as the Balkan quartet Hora Mare), with which she performs throughout the Netherlands and accompanies the Balkan ensemble of the Hague Music Academy (MDH) on cymbals.
