Cello ensemble

For cellists aged approximately 17 and up who want to learn more about all facets of ensemble playing.

In 20 rehearsals on Tuesday evenings (20:00-21:30), we work on varied repertoire from different stylistic periods. The emphasis is on smooth ensemble playing and on listening to balance, harmony, pulse, and sound from an ‘overarching’ perspective.

If you are unwilling or unable to commit for the entire course year, there is Cello Ensemble A: five sessions in which we truly learn to play together: how to listen to each other, what the function of your part is, how to play a ‘pure’ chord together, how to stay in time, and how to enjoy the whole experience.

Playing Level
You can participate if you have at least been introduced to the first four positions and various bowing techniques. Challenging and solo parts are available for advanced players.

Prerequisites
You take regular cello lessons, and you are preferably present at all, but at least 16 of the 20, rehearsals (for Ensemble A: at least 4 of the 5).

MDH Cello Ensemble: annual course of 20 lessons with interim performances and a final concert
We start with Cello Ensemble A, followed by another 15 rehearsals in which we continue working on ensemble skills, but also work towards the various performances during the MDH general concerts. We conclude with our own final concert on May 21.
